Diagnosing Autism - Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) exhibits a variety of behaviors and symptoms across a spectrum just as the name states. Because of the complex nature of the disorder, ASD can be easily misdiagnosed. Caution must be exercised before a complete diagnosis is made. All of the following symptoms must be carefully considered before Autism treatments can be considered: (1) Inability to engage in meaningful group interactions (2) Conversational skills are non-existent or minimal(3) Incapable of imaginative play (4) Exhibits extremely repetitive movements (twirling, arm waving) or robotic language (5)Extreme, repetitive engagement on objects or tasks (6) Unable to break from routine and structure
